I’ll admit it- I used to have a whole drawer stuffed with those flimsy plastic grocery bags. Every time I came home from the store, I’d juggle four or five of them. I hoped they wouldn’t split on the way up the stairs. More than once, a bag tore and I watched my groceries scatter across the driveway. Not exactly the low-stress life I was aiming for.

I would try to find a use for the bags. I used them mainly as mini trash bags. Ultimately, they would just become more trash. I hadn’t even heard of reusable bags. One day I went into the store and was told that those frustrating plastic bags were not available anymore. They started charging for paper bags and these new reusable bags. I was excited and bought into it hook line and sinker, thinking I was helping the environment. The problem with these bags was that they would break. They would get incredibly grimy. I never seemed to have one when I needed it. So, I would buy a new one, adding to an endless collection of more bags.
That’s when I found a new grocery bag. It is heavy duty enough to carry up to 50 lbs. These bags are not only heavy duty. They are also small enough to be folded up and left in your purse. They can fit in a glove compartment or even be attached to a key ring. These bags can hold items like milk jugs and weeks worth of produce!

Here’s what I love about them:
- They fold up small, so I always keep one in my purse and a couple in the car.
- They’re washable, which makes them feel fresh and safe even after hauling messy groceries.
- They save me money (no more paying for paper or new bags to replace forgotten ones at check out).
- And every trip I take with them feels like one less pile of plastic ending up in the trash.
π If youβd like to try them for yourself, you can find the ones I use here.
It’s a small swap. For me, it’s one of those little changes. It makes life feel simpler, calmer, and more sustainable. They are not as bulky as my first reusable grocery bags. I can wash them. In a world so full of quick replacements, their compact nature and ease to clean make them a worthy choice.
What happened to all of my original bags? Well, they were lost in a house fire. The ones that I bought after than went to moving, wrapping gifts, and even a brief attempt at organization. But those are all stories for another day.
Thank you so much for joining me! I wonder how you lug your groceries around? Have you used bags like this? What did you think of them? For me, their compact size has been very useful. What do you think?
